A Struggle of a Woman with Her Giant Leg

Woman 36 years, Mandy Sellar from Accrington, Lancashire, England is now stronger than before. Having diagnosed she had proteus syndrome by the doctor, Sellar has to struggle against the abnormality in her legs. Her legs grow larger in size compared to the body.

Sellar was diagnosed with Proteus syndrome since May 2006 and no medical treatment to cure this syndrome. This syndrome is rarely happened, till today has been reported only 120 people who suffer from these disorders in parts of the world. As quoted by the Daily Mail, Mandy had followed the advice doctors to amputate his leg, a few months ago. Before she was amputated, her palm reaches a diameter of 89 centimeters and her legs weights about 70 pounds.

One big hope on the day when she was amputated, she only wants to live without her giant legs. In fact, her left leg has grown back with the same size for about less than two years after operation. The doctor claimed that her left leg infected with septicemia and bacteria which blended in blood vessels and amputation was the only way to save her life. “I hope that amputation would make my condition is stable, but I realized that my giant legs grow back,” she told that in Daily Mirror.

The circumference of her left foot reaches one meter and its weight nearly 20 kilograms. Sellar’s left leg grow fast day by day become a new problem. She has to find an artificial leg for her right leg, although it almost can’t endure the left one.

However, Sellar is strong enough to accept her fate, “I will not let this make me suffer. I will keep fighting to live the norm. I have to live from day to day, from week to week. I have a life and I have to live the best I can. I am sure there are people who are far worse than me.“
